The Stuck At Home Book Tag // Everything I’ve Been Doing In Quarantine

Long days at home have started to become normal.

It’s officially summer for me now that school is out, and I’ve been doing so many different things while in quarantine due to the extra time that I have on my hands.

So today, I‘ve decided to talk more about those things through the Stuck At Home Book Tag! I know I haven’t posted a tag or award for a long time, and since they keep piling up, I really apologize for not getting to most of them. However, since this is a tag that I probably won’t be able to publish once social distancing is a thing of the past, I thought it would be fun to answer the questions today and talk all about my quarantine misadventures!!

Also, if you’re confused as to why I’m posting on Wednesday, I’ve decided to change up my blogging schedule a bit! Basically, I’ll still try to post every single Saturday, but I might occasionally also post on Wednesdays.

Before I get started, please use these resources to support the Black community and demand justice for everything that has been going on. Remember to always show your support, even when this topic isn’t “trending.”

THE RULES…

  1. Thank the person who nominated you. Thank you so much to Rhi @ Marshmallow Harmonies for nominating me to do this a few weeks ago! She’s such an amazing blogger who gives the best book recs – you need to check out & follow her blog asap.
  2. Answer all the questions down below.
  3. Pingback to the creator: Ellyn @ Allonsythornraxx.
  4. Nominate 5+ bloggers you’d like to know more about, to do this tag.

Header and Divider (1)WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?

BecomingI have SO many books that I’m technically supposed to be reading right now, mainly because I get most of my books from the (online now) library and they keep piling up!! But I think the most prominent book on my currently reading list is Becoming by Michelle Obama.

So far, I’m only halfway through —and this is definitely different from what I normally read (YA Contemporary lol) — but Michelle Obama is so inspiring! I’ve been wanting to read this for so long, and I think I’m going to love it. I also really want to watch the documentary after I finish the book!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE CAN’T-LEAVE-THE-HOUSE-ACTIVITY?

There are so many things I’ve been doing recently that I can’t narrow it down to just one! Here are a few of the things I’ve been doing, though:

The Good Place' says goodbye, take it sleazy | The Wellesley News

  • Binge-watching TV Shows! I am absolutely obsessed with The Good Place on Netflix, and I’ve been watching a few a lot of epsiodes almost every night. (it doesn’t help that each episode ends with a cliffhanger ok) I love this show so much that I could honestly write an entire review on it!!
  • I’ve also been trying to read a lot, which works out most days…
  • Another thing I’ve been doing is photography! My friend and I are planning on creating a special album to showcase this summer, and it’s been so much fun taking and editing all the pictures.

A BOOK YOU’VE BEEN MEANING TO READ FOREVER?

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe (Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, #1)I’ve been wanting to read Aristotle and Dante Discover The Secrets of the Universe for such a long time!! It’s definitely a favorite all around the book community, and so many amazing bloggers I follow have loved it. The majority of reviews on Goodreads have given this 5 stars, and it just sounds SO good!

I think my hold for this from the library just went through, so hopefully I can read it soon? But, like I mentioned above, I have a bunch of books that I plan on “reading soon,” so I’m not sure when I’ll get to it. I want to like this so badly, and I hope I will!

AN INTIMIDATING BOOK ON YOUR TBR?

The Raven King (The Raven Cycle, #4)This is definitely The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater! Don’t get me wrong: I absolutely love The Raven Cycle series and all the precious characters… but I’ve been putting off reading this for the longest time because it takes me 20-ish minutes to get invested in it. Maggie Stiefvater’s writing style is beautiful, but a bit heavy and dense, and as of now I’m longing to read just contemporaries with fluffy writing styles!

It’s also kind of intimidating that this is the last book of the series. Blue Lily, Lily Blue left so many problems to resolve, so I really hope that this is a powerful conclusion!

TOP THREE PRIORITY BOOKS ON YOUR TBR?

Brown Girl Dreaming You Should See Me in a Crown The Raven King (The Raven Cycle, #4)

  • Brown Girl Dreaming: I mentioned this in my post about books by Black authors I want to read soon, and many people commented on that post saying they loved it! I haven’t read a book written in verse for a long time, so I’m really excited for this — I think it will be touchingly beautiful!
  • You Should See Me In A Crown: This book has been on my TBR for so long, and it was one of my most anticipated 2020 releases! The cover is stunning, the premise sounds very beautiful, the f/f romance sounds adorable and if you can’t already tell, I have very high expectations.
  • The Raven King: Like I mentioned above, I’ve been putting off reading this for… a few months, mostly because I am the biggest mood reader ever! which i’m trying to change but then it just makes reading feel like a chore :((  But I really miss the Gangsey, the mysterious world and the special feeling this series has, so I hope I can read this soon?

RECOMMEND A SHORT BOOK?

Other Words for HomeOther Words for Home is the most beautiful Middle Grade novel written in verse! I mentioned it in my post about heartwarming MG novels by Asian authors last month, which just goes to show how much I love it because I’m mentioning it again.

I know this is over 300 pages long, but it’s written in verse, so it really isn’t that long of read! I read this in about 2 hours, and the blend of powerful themes about growth and identity as well as the beautiful writing made it one of my favorite novels. I will keep recommending Other Words For Home to everyone I know because it’s just that amazing of a book!

RECOMMEND A LONG BOOK?

Scythe (Arc of a Scythe, #1)Scythe is another one of my favorite books due to the compelling ideas and themes it explores that truly make you think. It’s over 400 pages and yet, even though I’ve read it twice, each of those times I was hooked on page one and couldn’t put it down!

The worldbuilding in this novel is truly amazing, I’ll always be in awe of how Neal Shusterman expertly crafted it. It’s so interesting to read about how the characters change throughout as well! I just love this book and if you haven’t read it yet, definitely go pick it up.

SOMETHING YOU’D LOVE TO DO WHILE STUCK AT HOME?

I made a (very long) quarantined summer bucket list with my friend, so there are countless things I want to try to do while stuck at home! But I think the things I’m most excited for are:

  • Redecorating My Bedroom: This has been a project on my mind ever since last year, especially because I love interior design! I think this summer might be the perfect time for me to begin redecorating.
  • Learning Spanish: I’ve wanted to learn Spanish for so long, but I’ve never really taken the initiative to do more than 5 minutes of practice on Duolingo each day! I’m hoping to change that soon and try to learn more Spanish while stuck at home.
  • Being More Active in the Blogiverse & Reading More Often: These past few weeks, you might have noticed that I sort of… disappeared from the blogging community. I’ve been getting back into blog hopping slowly, but I really want to be more active in the community! I’m also planning on reading a lot and tackling my tbr.

WHAT DO YOU PLAN ON READING NEXT?

Brown Girl DreamingI’m just going to mention books I’ve already talked about to answer this question, because I already have copies of both and really need to read them soon! The Raven King (The Raven Cycle, #4) (And yes, we are ignoring the fact that I have way too many books I’m supposed to be ‘currently reading’ and instead accepting that I cannot change my Mood Reader Ways)

I want to read Brown Girl Dreaming as soon as I can for all the reasons I mentioned above! And even though it might take me a while to get invested in The Raven King, I feel bad for putting it off and am planning on reading it ASAP as well.

the amount of joy I got seeing you mentioning Ari and Dante..myeah I’m obsessed. But I hope whenever u read it u love it!! Also can sooo relate on being a mood reader, a few series I’ve started I still haven’t finished just because I’m too scared / not in the mood for them? Also blue lily was my fave in the series but I found the raven king…kinda disappointing? Like it was good but I wanted more from it and things felt lacking. Not to put you off reading it!! It’s a solid conclusion!! I also want to read becoming ! I’ve had a library hold on it forever but I still have like a month left to wait :((( also thanks so much for tagging me !!! I needed an excuse to do this tags and never have post ideas so will definitely be doing this soon.

Thank so much for tagging me Ash! I actually saw this tag on Rhi’s feed and thought it looked so fun so I’ll definitely look forward to posting this (I’ll prioritise this post because obviously it would be weird if I did it in a few months when we are *hopefully* not stuck at home 😂) but all your answers were amazing! I’m actually taking Spanish as one of my subjects and it is such a beautiful subject so all the best with learning it 💗 Ah The Good Place!! I totally agree, I feel like if I wrote a review it would be so lengthy 😂 It’s such a light hearted show and I want it practically everday too (the episodes are only 20 minutes long, it’s not our fault we’re addicted 😭) And The Raven Cycle sounds really good, so many book bloggers mention this serious and I must read it but at the same time I’m in quite a dense read at the moment that takes so much concentration so I’m hoping to read a cute and fluffy contemporary with those romances that I live for 😂 I love that you made a posting schedule, amazing! I try post every Friday chapters of my novel and at some point in the week a general post ☺️ Thanks again for tagging me Ash!! 💖 Hope you manage to tackle your tbr and the photo album sounds lovely!!

of course!! Rhi’s post was so fun and i hope you enjoy answering these questions!! (haha yes i really hope that quarantine is over in a few months!) aw thank you so much, i’m so excited to learn Spanish and i hope i stay motivated to do at least a little each day. 😅 The Good Place is SO good ughhh, if i were to review it my post would probably be over 10k words 😂 and yes, the episodes are so short but they all end on cliffhangers 😭😭

omg you should definitely read The Raven Cycle, it’s so amazing and i love it ahhh but i definitely agree that it’s the opposite of fluffy!! 😅 and aw thank you – i love your posting schedule (we need more about your novel asap)!! yay i can’t wait to read your answers! thank you so much 🥰❤

It really was!! Yes I actually can’t wait 💕 Me too, it’s not that I hate it because I’m a home bird anyway but I just have some FOMO 😂 Of course, I’m sure you will! You can slay this ✨ I started learning Italian but I feel like I’ve got way too much on my plate right now, so I thought it’s best if I pause Italian for now and come back to it soon ☺️ Yesss it is!! I swear I watched like three or four episodes last night, oops!! 😂 Agreed I kinda want to do a character analysis or something because It hint that would be so fun to do all that research 😌 I know right it’s like they purposefully want you to watch another episode (duh amber) 😂

Ooo thank you I’ll definitely give it a try!! Yes I need fluffy reads sometimes 😭 Thank you so much, yep this past week and a half I’ve been doing a lot of planning and I’m going to try get the prologue out today 🙂 Of course girlie and no stress!! 💓 I also need to start scheduling some posts ASAP!! 😂

i absolutely loved becoming! i have recently watched the documentary on netflix and found that to be so inspiring as well. my favorite thing about it is that we actually get to see other young girls and their lives and narratives, which added such a great layer to the story. i love the obamas, honestly, and it was really great hearing her talk about hopeful times. it made me feel hopeful as well for better days ahead!
i thought i’d be binge-watching a lot more during quarantine, but i am actually trying to take my time with tv shows so they don’t end too quickly, hahah. i’ve been allowing myself one episode a day, and trying to focus on other activities, but sometimes i will give in and binge a season in a couple of days, hahah.
i hope you do love ari & dante (it’s my favorite book of all times, lol) and the raven king too! i recently finished you should see me in a crown and it was a really fun read: it was kinda tropey and cliché, but in the best way possible!
i really need to start practicing a new language! i told myself i’d try to learn french during quarantine and i haven’t made much progress at all. i think i’m very intimidated by the idea of learning a new language. i ended up learning english when i was really young and i’ve always been okay at it, so i am afraid that i won’t be as good at it and i keep putting it off, which is such a bad mindset! but all the luck on your spanish learning!

I didn’t know other words for home was in verse but now I’m even more excited for it because middle grade books written in simple yet heart wrenching verse is…. the best thing ever (‘inside out and back again’ by thanhha lai and ‘full cicada moon’ by marilyn hilton are also mg books written in verse and I love them!) and scythe!! I’m also a big fan of the Scythe books, they are so interesting and always really intense 😱 I also read Becoming this year and though it took me a while to get through the book I ended up really liking it – Michelle’s journey was truly so inspiring to read about 😊

yes!! Neal Shusterman comes up with the best plot haha. it took me a while to get through Becoming as well, but i think that’s mostly due to the fact that i rarely read nonfiction 😅 i definitely loved it in the end, Michelle Obama is so so inspiring and powerful!! ❤

I’m in the middle of Becoming right now, and it’s also pretty different from what I usually read, but it is amazing and so inspiring!! I definitely recommend Brown Girl Dreaming; I read it recently and I really enjoyed it 🙂
